Set Children on the Path to Success, One Book at a Time
Swanton Public Library is proud to offer 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten, a nationwide reading challenge that encourages parents and caregivers to read aloud with young children.
The concept is simple: read 1,000 books with your child before they start kindergarten.
The rewards are priceless. Reading together helps children build vocabulary, listening skills, imagination, confidence, and a strong foundation for future reading success.
1. Register Your Child
Register your child at Swanton Public Library. You may register before you begin, or you can start by printing the first 100 books form and register when you complete it.
2. Record the Books You Read
Keep track of the titles you read together.
You can use:

3. Check In Every 100 Books
For every 100 books read, visit the library to report your progress.
Bring your completed form or show your progress in the app so library staff can update your child’s record.
4. Celebrate Milestones
For every 100 books read, your child can choose a prize from the prize box and have their picture taken for the library’s wall of 1,000 Books readers.
Children can earn 10 prizes total, one for every 100 books read.
5. Reach 1,000 Books
When your child reaches 1,000 books, they will receive a special gift, a certificate of completion, and a special picture for the library’s wall.
