Teen Programs

Swanton Public Library offers programs, activities, clubs, contests, and reading opportunities for students in grades 5 through 12.

This page is the main place to find teen programs at the library. More details for June events will be added soon as the summer schedule is finalized.

Teen Book Discussion

Swanton Public Library offers virtual, do-it-at-home book club opportunities for teens. Participants can pick up a free book and activity packet at the library, and everyone who participates gets to keep the book.

Each packet may include a blank review form, discussion questions, and a small craft or activity connected to the book. Teens can do as much or as little of the extra activities as they would like. The only requirement is to read the book.

For May 2026, the featured books were:

Grades 5 through 8:
Chasing Space by Leland Melvin

Grades 9 through 12:
The Call of the Wild by Jack London

Teens may also visit splyouth.org to join book discussions, respond to questions, or share activities. Teens who return materials to the library or participate online may receive a small prize.

Please check with the library for current book selections.

Teen Contests

Teen contests are offered throughout the year for students in grades 6 through 12.

Contests may include creative challenges, writing prompts, library activities, online contests, seasonal themes, and other opportunities to participate for fun and prizes.

Please check the library calendar or ask at the front desk for current teen contests.

Board of Library Teens

BOLT, the Board of Library Teens, is an advisory board for students in grades 5 through 12.

Members meet regularly to discuss books, help plan programs for their peers, provide input on library services for teens, assist with teen-related materials, and promote the library to other teens.

Interested teens may fill out an application. Applications are available at the front desk.

STEAM Club

STEAM Club gives youth the chance to explore science, technology, engineering, art, and math through hands-on activities.

Programs may include crafts, building challenges, experiments, kits, creative projects, and other activities designed to encourage curiosity and problem-solving.

Please check the calendar to see when STEAM Club meets this month.

Anime Club

Anime Club gives teens a place to watch anime, enjoy snacks, and connect with others who share similar interests.

Meeting dates may vary. Please check the library calendar to see when Anime Club is meeting this month.

Teen Summer Reading

Teen Summer Reading for grades 5 through 12 begins June 1.

The 2026 Summer Reading Program theme is “Unearth a Story,” celebrating stories found underground, from dinosaurs and cave art to gemstones and more.

Teens are challenged to read 500 minutes during the summer for fun and prizes. The program also includes activities at the library throughout the summer.

PRISM Club

Prism Club is a teen program focused on conversation, games, books, and open-minded discussion.

Participants are encouraged to bring questions, share favorite pride reads, play games, and connect with other teens in a welcoming library setting.

Prism Club is for teens and meeting dates may vary. Please check the library calendar for the most current dates and times.

Club Club Afterschool

Club Club Afterschool gives teens a place to relax, work on homework, enjoy snacks, make arts and crafts, or just hang out after school.

This program follows the Swanton Public Schools calendar and meets on school days after dismissal. If school is not in session, Club Club Afterschool does not meet.

Program dates and times may vary around holidays, breaks, early dismissals, and school cancellations. Please check the library calendar or contact the library for the most current schedule.
