September is packed with programs, clubs, creative activities and opportunities to connect at Swanton Public Library. From fall crafts and family programs to book clubs, teen activities and educational events, there’s plenty happening throughout the month.


September 2026 Events & Activities at The Swanton Public Library

Diamond Art: Autumn Leaves

Celebrate the arrival of fall with autumn themed diamond art, sweet treats and music on Thursday, September 24. Sessions are available at 2:00 pm and 6:00 pm. Registration is required.


Paper Piercers

Stop by between 10:30 am and 3:30 pm on Wednesday, September 9 for paper crafting. Materials will be available for a variety of projects. Registration is requested.


Cardmaking: Autumn Colors

Join Anna Geis at 5:30 pm on Thursday, September 17 to create three autumn themed cards. The cost is $8 per person, with supplies included. Register online or by September 16.


Library Bingo Night

Enjoy a classic night of Bingo at 6:00 pm on Thursday, September 24. Book prizes and refreshments are included.


Disney World Travel

Thinking about a Disney World vacation? Join librarian and Disney enthusiast Alonna Macho at 6:30 pm on Thursday, September 10 for planning tips, tricks and advice, along with a guest appearance from Disney cast member Sydney.


Getting Started with Chickens

Interested in raising chickens? Librarian and experienced chicken keeper Courtney Newbury will discuss the benefits and challenges at 6:00 pm on Thursday, September 17. Registration is requested, but walk ins are welcome.


Tai Chi

Certified Tai Chi and Qi Gong instructor Mark Butler will lead a program from 10:00 am to noon on Saturday, September 19. Participants should wear sturdy, flexible footwear and bring drinking water. Registration is available by phone or through the library website.


Paws to Read

All ages can read to therapy dog Whitaker on Tuesdays at 6:00 pm.


Programs for Kids & Families

September Storytimes

Preschool storytime is held Tuesdays at 10:45 am with stories, crafts, fingerplays and more.

September themes include:

• September 15: Bugs, Music & Me Oh My

• September 22: How About Me?

• September 29: Beautiful Ladies, Better Than Sunflowers


International Dot Day

Celebrate creativity and International Dot Day at 4:15 pm on Tuesday, September 15. Kids can listen to The Dot and create their own DOT art.


STEAM Club Events

STEAM Club meets Fridays at 4:15 pm for science, technology, engineering, art and math activities.


September programs include Fabric Fun on September 4 and 11, Slime Time on September 18 and Science in Nature on September 25.


Grandparents' Day Craft

Children ages 8 to 12 can create a Grandparents' Day gift at the library on Sunday, September 13. Supplies are provided.



Youth Book Clubs

Swanton Public Library offers four do it at home book clubs for young readers in grades K through 12. Each club features age appropriate books, activities and opportunities to explore new stories.


September selections include:

Grades K to 3: The First Day of School by Margaret McNamara

Grades 3 to 5: Because of Winn Dixie by Kate DiCamillo

Grades 5 to 8: Game Changers by Mike Lupica

Grades 9 to 12: The Season by Sarah MacLean


The library also offers the 100 Books Before Graduation program for students in grades 6 through 12. Participants can earn prizes as they work toward reading 100 books before graduation.


Teen Clubs & Opportunities

Club Club Afterschool

Middle and high school students are invited to the library every Monday, Wednesday and Friday after school from 3:30 to 4:30 pm beginning September 9. Students can work on homework, hang out and participate in activities.


Prism Club

Meets Wednesday, September 23 at 4:00 pm. Bring an open mind and a favorite book.


Retro Anime Club

Meets Wednesday, September 30 from 3:30 to 5:30 pm for four episodes of anime. Japanese snacks are included.


BOET Members Wanted

Middle and high school students can apply to join the library's BOET group and help plan programs, discuss books and media and provide input on teen related issues.


Adult Book Clubs

Gretchen's Book Club

Meets Thursday, September 10 at 5:30 pm to discuss The Day the World Came to Town: 9/11 in Gander, Newfoundland by Jim DeFede.


Book Discussion Club

Meets Monday, September 28 at 6:00 pm to discuss Circe by Madeline Miller.


Chestnuts

Meets Wednesdays at 5:00 pm. Adults of all skill levels are welcome.


Ongoing Opportunities

The library offers several recurring programs throughout September, including Chair Yoga, Color Me Calm, Dungeons & Dragons, D&D workshops, Mahjong Mania, Seam Rippers Sewing Club and Fiber Friends.


The Swanton Historical Society also meets Fridays at 10:00 am, and volunteers and visitors are welcome.

Want to support Swanton Public Library? The Friends of the Swanton Public Library help sponsor programs, promote library activities, support library services and needs and encourage the library's continued growth through fundraising and volunteer work.


Membership levels range from $10 for retirees and students to $50 for patrons, with family, individual and benefactor memberships also available.

Monday & Tuesday: 10:00 am to 7:00 pm

Wednesday & Thursday: 10:00 am to 8:00 pm

Friday: 10:00 am to 5:30 pm

Saturday: 10:00 am to 2:00 pm


The library will be closed Monday, September 7 for the holiday.
